The Six States initiative, spearheaded by Silicon Valley venture capitalist Tim Draper, would divide California into six new states. These new states would be created regionally as Jefferson, North California, Silicon Valley, Central California, West California, and South California.
The initiative comes among claims that California is currently ungovernable.
Although California is particularly large, the division would cause many more problems.
A division would create difficulties regarding trade, regulating interstate commerce, and especially taxation.
Furthermore, what would be done about the thousands of pop culture references? The Golden States? Former California Love?
The California Secrarary of State's office has already greenlit the initiative, and action must be taken.
