veto the National Defense Authorization Act, to avoid the indefinite imprisonment of U.S. citizens without a jury.

We, the signers, believe that the National Defense Authorization Act is a violation of articles six, seven and eight of the Bill of Rights. It is an act that will cause the U.S. to stray from its democratic values, leading to resentment against the government that could cause more domestic terrorism than it eliminates. We believe that every American has the right to a trial and the knowledge of how long his or her detainment will be. George Washington stated that "Arbitrary power is most easily established on the ruins of liberty abused to licentiousness." The legislature is manipulating the people, using their fear to control them further. That, in of itself, is an act of terrorism, which is defined as the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims.
