The Research works act undermines science by locking publically funded scientific research behind paywalls. For instance right now the NIH requires that research that it funds must be made freely available online. Doctors around the world use this research to improve the quality of health care. But by locking the research behind expensive paywalls of companies like Elsevier access to this public research will be limitted. This will both slow the pace of scientific progress and slow the introduction of new treatments.
