It has recently been reported by The New York Times that the President will be cancelling a planned visit to the city of Amritsar, the holiest site in the Sikh faith, because of "the thorny question of how Mr. Obama would cover his head, as Sikh tradition requires, while visiting the temple."

Though this posed no such problem for the Queen of England or the Prime Minister of Canada, the President has decided that this obstacle is sufficient to dispense with visiting the city and its amazing Golden Temple altogether. This is an insult not just to American Sikhs, but all Americans who are presupposed to be ignorant and intolerant. Please, Mr. President - reconsider, and honor Amritsar - and America - with your visit.
