Visit Civil Rights Movement treasure Richie Jean Sherrod Jackson.

Created by C.L. on July 25, 2013

This petition is to request that President Obama come to Selma, Alabama and meet Mrs.Richie Jean Sherrod Jackson, and to sit in the place that two of his Nobel Peace Prize predecessors (Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. & Ralph Bunche) have sat. Mrs.Jackson is a treasure of the Civil Rights Movement, who was present and a part of the historic march from Selma to Montgomery. The Jackson residence was used as the headquarters for the planning of the Selma to Montgomery March, and was chosen because of the Jackson's friendship with Dr. King. After the death of her husband,Mrs. Jackson wrote her memoir “House by the Side of the Road,” in which she recalls different moments with her family friend Dr. King and how the movement unfolded before her eyes. It is her greatest wish to meet the President.
