The decision of some states to secede from the Union was rashly thought out, if thought out at all. It is great that they chose to stand up for their rights, but at least they should have done so with a plan in mind. If they think they're economy is hurting now, what will they do without government funding? Oregon's petition points out to us that they believe the government cares not for the future of their children, but by creating this petition, Oregon is doing just the same. Whether these petitions pass or not is not relevant. These petitions are creating a substantial rift in the country as a whole, and as a wise man once said, "A house divided cannot stand". Even Ronald Reagan agrees, "If we ever forget that we are One Nation Under God, then we will be One Nation Gone Under."
