Voting in our nation is not only a right but a privilege. Our country has enjoyed the benefits of our democracy for 240 year. Our founding fathers fought for the right to be represented by a government of the people, by the people, for the people. Women and minorities have both had to fight for the right to vote in our country. We should hold this day in high esteem when we are called to do our civic duty and cast our vote. There are other federal holidays that are contentious and could easily be down graded from one of the 10 federally observed holidays, i.e. Columbus day. It would also allow access to the process to our children. Let's show our country, our children, and the world that the United States values the right to vote and recognize the election day as a federal holida
