Voting district lines should be drawn to minimize the number & length of straight lines needed make equal size districts

Created by D.B. on November 10, 2014

We ask the Obama administration to work to enact reforms to districting laws that eliminate the ability for any political party to gerrymander the vote, and which result in an even divide of citizenry into voting districts within states.

Districting should be automatic and use an algorithm designed to divide the populace within a state evenly, using the shortest possible straight lines to do so. By requiring districting to be done automatically and algorithmically votes will more accurately reflect the will of the aggregate populace, rather than each district reflecting the will of the subset of the populace it was designed to encompass, resulting in many 'non-contestable' districts which are automatically assigned to the majority in that district.
