Voting On Weekend Amendment

Created by G.N. on April 19, 2016

If you are eligible to vote and want to vote, our society should make it as easy as possible for you to do so. One simple way to make it easier to enjoy this essential right is to guarantee the right to vote on weekends. This petition asks to make that guarantee by statute or Constitutional amendment.

Ultimately, Tuesday voting is a tradition; but it's a bad tradition and should end. Tuesday voting is an unneccessary burden to those that work, especially hourly workers, those who work long hours, and commuters. Tuesday voting is also an unneccessary burden for those with children.

Weekend voting may cost more, but it may also cost less because it recaptures wages and transactions lost to Tuesday voting. Regardless, the non-monetary value of increasing access to the polls is worth it.
