US citizens were trapped in Mexico after Hurricane Odile. We were told the US government was sending the Air Force to evacuate its citizens. Five days later, standing in a line of thousands, we had some hope—our government was coming to get us!
Canadian and British representatives polled the line for their citizens and took them to the front. The Mexican government, along with commercial airlines, took Mexican AND US citizens to safety without charge. The US government sent charter planes that we had to sign a promissory note for $600 to board.
We are asking that the federal government initiate legislation that would wipe clean any promissory notes signed by US citizens to be evacuated from what had become a desperate and dangerous situation.
