The Renewable Energy Mandate, currently requires that about 1/3 of America's corn crop be used for fuel. There will be a shortage of corn this year, and the higher prices will cause hunger in the poorest nations, where most of their income is spent on food. The EPA has the power to waive this requirement temporarily and should do it this year as a humanitarian measure.
Substituting corn based ethanol for gasoline provides little or no reduction in GHG's and is a bad idea. We should speed up development of more environmentally beneficial biofuels.
