Water Contamination in the South Dakota, Pine Ridge Reservation, and nearby settlements is
attributed to Uranium Mining done in the 1950s and 1960s. Soil in the area is not suitable to grow any
crop. Water has become highly irradiated due to uranium run off seeping into the aquifers in the area
that supply most of the water. 12 out of every 600 citizens suffers from brain tumors.
Population of Pine Ridge has the lowest life expectancy out of any group in the Western Hemisphere.
Infant mortality rate is 5x the United States National average.
