Retailers are opening earlier and earlier on Black Friday with some big-box retailers opening as early as 8pm on Thanksgiving. While we may not be able to impact this year, this should not be acceptable going forward.
Retail employees are already over-worked and under-paid for what they do. The minimum that they should be able to expect is to be able to spend Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter with their families. Stores choosing to open on Thanksgiving or at midnight on Black Friday are taking away that option.
5 am openings are early enough and if retailers are not willing to do the right thing by their employees then our elected officials should step in and defend us. Please ban these early openings.
