We the people ask the federal government to Take or explain a position on an issue or policy:

We believe the Obama Administration should enforce penalties that violate human rights that fall under women's issues.

Created by D.G. on September 28, 2016

Rape isn't just a women's issue, it's a human rights issue as well. Rape violates the human right to personal security. The community, as a whole, not only wants but needs a change to the way our system handles rape crimes. Our system needs to hold those who not only violated the law but a human right as well accountable for their actions. But the problem is that the system treats this crime as a joke, perpetrators get off with sentences that are barely a slap on the wrist. Judges focus more on saving the perpetrators future than ensuring that the victim get some type of justice. We want to see the criminal system come up with a way to make sentencing more constant. It has to be known that sexual assault will no longer be taken as a joke and appropriate punishment will be given.
