We demand that a Federal Standard for Police Officers be instituted across the United States.

Police Departments have inconsistent hiring standards across the country - this is creating gaps in expectations between jurisdictions. We must solve this by instituting a Federal Standard that is at least equivalent to the United States Military requirements for becoming a soldier - discipline, physical and mental fitness, and other similar standards. Without a Federal Standard, rural and urban departments alike will have inconsistent hiring policies that will see people who have washed out of the Military's screening process join an armed police force. This is a dangerous situation that cannot be allowed to continue, and one that needs to be rectified with a greater sense of urgency. We ask that Congress take action within the year.
