In the U.S, more than 5.4 million women have to take at least one medication during their pregnancies. However, the safety and effectiveness in human pregnancy is “undetermined” for 97.7% of drug treatments. In many cases, it is much riskier for pregnant women to take no medication than to take medicine that's not FDA approved. Over 500,000 pregnant women a year have some significant medical illness. Without the proper medication, these women have a higher risk of suffering or dying from these illnesses. This lack of approved medication results from an inadequate number of clinical trials available to pregnant women. Help pregnant women receive the proper medical treatmenment they need by signing this petition, urging the federal government to take this issue seriously.
