We the people ask the federal government to Call on Congress to act on an issue:

We need clear legislation regarding when a police officer may draw a firearm.

Created by J.S. on September 21, 2016

There are too many people dying, excessive uses of force, and no clear doctrine as to when the drawing of firearms is acceptable. This petition calls for the following language to be used regarding the use of firearms and police.

A police officer may only draw their firearm if they can demonstrate beyond a reasonable doubt that either their, or another individual's life is in intimidate jeopardy.

Guns should only be drawn as a last and final resort. The police perform a dangerous job, and they must be equipped to protect themselves. However their use of force must fall within clear guidelines and legislative parameters. This language allows for the use of force, but only when there is a clear and present need for it.
