We Need a New Voting Rights Act

Created by C.J. on November 13, 2012

As the Supreme Court considers Section 5 of the Voting Rights Act, we request that the Obama Administration ensure the integrity of voting nationwide. Expand the Act or create a new Act to cover all states, standardize procedures for voting, require public funding for elections, and remove partisanship from the process. Voting machines need to be publicly owned, not privately owned. Per capita minimums for the number of voting machines in each precinct should be required in all states. Federal oversight by a non-partisan committee to ensure that every American has the opportunity to vote easily. Automatic voter registration for all social security number holders. Regulation requiring that re-districting be handled by a non-partisan or bi-partisan committee in every state.
