Five times in our history, the total vote of the electoral college has not equaled the total votes of the population. The electoral college was created when our founders opted not to create a pure democracy, but to favor the votes of some over the votes of others. They did not believe each person's vote should hold the same weight, as the countrymen did not receive the education that those in the cities did. This does not fit today's America. The electoral college makes many Americans feel as though their votes do not count. In an educated first world country, each vote should hold the same weight. We ask the federal government to abolish the electoral college in favor of popular vote, to treat each American's voice with equal respect.
