Students are taught test taking strategies and the material necessary to pass, rather than an in depth understanding of subject matter. Schools are encouraged to put such emphasis on these tests, as they are often a crucial part in determining funding. By restricting the number of standardized tests or the amount of funding schools receive based on scores, the government could enable teachers to spend more time teaching subject related topics, rather than tips on how to outsmart a standardized test.
