The Electoral College is an outdated system that was designed to deal with problems that no longer exist. The majority of Americans wish for the removal of this undemocratic, archaic system and its replacement by a pure popular vote. This issue does not often come up due to more pressing matters that need to be addressed, but in light of the recent election in which a candidate who received a minority of the popular vote was nonetheless elected to the most precious office in this nation, it seems right that we finally recognize the flawed nature of our electoral system and take measures to fix it. Aside from being a more democratic system, a pure popular vote would also increase voter participation and force candidates to focus on the entire country, rather than swing states exclusively.
