In 1861, President Lincoln, in effect, decided that states were not allowed to exit the union, even though it was the democratically expressed wishes of what became the Confederate States of America to do so. 600,000 people died. The blood spilled then is what has held the union together since (along with a subsequent ruling by the supreme court).
Over a 150 years on, we ask that that decision is reviewed. By legislating a means for states secede, the people will have the tools needed to ensure that representatives work together for the common good. At present, the union is taken for granted, and as such, is being exploited by uncompromising elected officials.
