In the history of the United States, there have been five presidential nominees who won election despite losing the popular vote. Two of these have been in the last two decades (2000, 2016). The electoral college system as established in Article II, Section 1 of the Constitution, and added to in certain amendments, is both arcane and undemocratic.
The establishment of our nation began with a great document that included this: "We believe these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal." If we still hold this true as a nation, then the votes of each citizen should be equal as well.
Thusly, we call for an amendment to the constitution to remove the electoral college and rely on the popular vote of our nation's citizens to decide our future leaders.
