James Monroe was the fifth President of the United States. Prior to his election as President he served as a state legislator, governor and Member of Congress.
James Monroe was the author of the Monroe Doctrine which was the earliest expression of the United States’ diplomatic and military resolve to ensure the end of colonization in the New World.
