President Obama has one more budget to submit. Usually the last budget is used as a position paper because the next POTUS will submit their own. We, the undersigned, would like the President to use this opportunity to demonstrate what America could do if we reduced military spending by only 10-20%, then reallocated those funds to infrastructure, education, healthcare and green energy research.
Our defense budget is over 55% of our discretionary (not SS or medicare) spending and we pay 73% of NATO's cost (up from 68% in 2001). Congress has spent over $150 million each of the last 3 budgets on Abrams tanks the military called obsolete, as just 1 example.
10-20% is roughly 2.5-5% of the total budget or $59-118 billion. Imagine an additional $60b dollars were spent on improving America.
