We petition to have a federal celebration for the colonist's victory in Yorktown on the 9th of October.

On October 19th 1781 the general of the British military forces, Charles Cornwallis surrendered on the coast of Yorktown, Virginia. Our founding father George Washington led the colonial army to victory on this forgotten day, against the imposing British naval forces and ground army. The victory at Yorktown does not receive the attention it deserves, given its importance to our national history. The surrender of Cornwallis is the fulfillment of the promise of the Declaration of Independence that enables us to have a government by the people and for the people. Without this surrender, it is possible that the U.S. would not exist today. This is a day to celebrate the final steps America took towards independence and to honor the many brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for our freedoms
