Taxpayers should not be penalized for every little program that our elected officials decide to implement. Instead of raising taxes on the American people, the funds for some of these programs should come out of the pockets of the people who want to put these into action.
It is also unfair to assume that raising the debt ceiling or cutting federal spending will amend this situation, or to expect the problem to fix itself.
A simple solution, again, would be to reduce the pay of our overpaid, elected officials.
