Our position as possessing nuclear weapons fosters a destructive attitude by many around the world. Here is America, the only nation to have used nuclear weapons, and to kill innocent civilians at that.
The fact is, nuclear weapons are impractical and provide no real protection or deterrent and in light of current socio-political conditions. Nuclear weapons provide more harm than protection.
We would set a far better example and be in a greater position to encourage nations such as Iran and North Korea to abandon their own nuclear weapon ambitions if we ourselves eliminate these unnecessarily destructive weapons from our inventories. Additionally, elimination of such weapons would certainly foster a new era in this world, an era in which world peace can come to pass.
