This petition stems from Las Vegas, NV, but is applicable everywhere. Employees in our city are still experiencing tough times and over the past few years the local tax practices have lowered the income of folks that I work with more and more.
In the past employees paid an amount based on a low estimate of what they might be tipped on a regular basis to avoid accounting for a constant changing total. Many employees have had to change from this policy to where every dollar is accounted for and thier paychecks are getting smaller and smaller. With this system many folks have lost thier homes and struggle to pay weekly bills although they work 40 or more hours a week.
We urge the government to examine and discuss this issue and ultimately cease the taxation of gratuities for all tipped jobs
