We urge president Obama to call upon his Indian counterpart to honor his government's promise on the Telangana statehood

Though the issue of statehood is purely India's own internal matter,as American citizens of Telangana origin we have a stake in the political and cultural destiny of Telangana, our homeland. Since 2008 More than 1100 persons,mostly young people committed suicide protesting Indian governments failure to implement its own declaration issued on december 9th 2009 granting statehood.The provincial Andhra Pradesh state government ruled by the Indian National Congress party which also holds power at the federal level has resorted to draconian measures clamping down on a mass grass roots protest movement.Though American government has lent its democratic voice of concern over Tibetan self-immolations it failed to do the same when scores of Telangana students committed the desparate political act
