Private partnerships or contractual programs will allow veterans to have more convenient access to a local pharmacy to refill VA written prescriptions, such as CVS, Walgreens, or a local hospital. The pharmacies will have to honor prescriptions written by VA physicians and physician assistants.
The Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), allows veterans to order medicine refills online. Veterans can go to their nearest VA facility, which isn't always close by. The prescriptions through the mail typically take 5-7 days to arrive.
While one should try to plan ahead, sometimes there are reasonable situations as to why a veteran runs out of prescription while waiting for his/her refill. Also, VA pharmacies are generally not open on the weekend.
