WHAT A BONUS! Step parents play a significant role yet in the eyes of the law hold no merit. Time for legal recognition!

Created by M.D. on July 16, 2015

What does family mean to you? In 2015 the dynamics of traditional family has completely changed. Blended families are becoming more and more popular these days with the increase in divorce, and widowed individuals with children choosing to remarry. Step parents play a significant role in the family structure, yet hold no legal status within the family dynamic. Step parents are expected to love unconditionally and in some cases step up and fill the role of the absent parent. Step parents are BONUS parents with no legal parental rights in the child's life. Currently step parents are sometimes relied upon for financial, emotional and physical support to the child which again can be viewed as a BONUS however it is time for step parents to be legally recognized.
