Shrimp is the most consumed seafood in America. Unfortunately, due to recent revelations by journalists, the way your perfectly peeled shrimp get to your table at home involves a process far more horrible than you could possibly imagine. ⅕ of the world’s shrimp supplies come from Thailand. Investigation has uncovered that shrimp supplies stocked in America’s most popular retailers. While the Thai government claims they are trying to solve the problem, seafood and shrimp in particular make a massive part of the Thai economy, therefore any drastic shift in it would be catastrophic for their economy. Despite government promises, more than 2000 trapped fishermen were discovered in 2015. The US government has worked to reduce legal loopholes, but unfortunately, the problem persists.
