Unpaid internships were once a one of the most valuable ways to improve a resume, get job experience, and build a future. Today however, I as a high school student cannot get an internship of any value because no internships are legally allowed to have said value.
One of the legal criteria to have unpaid internships is that:
The employer that provides the training derives no immediate advantage from the activities of the trainees and on occasion the employer’s operations may actually be impeded;
This essentially means no American who wants to enter a new field can get a internship that will provide the experience necessary to get a paid job without their employer sacrificing a greatly.
And above all, it is unconstitutional to disallow someone their right to work for non-monetary benefit
