In these times of budgetary concern, steps should be taken to trim costs wherever possible. It is proposed that Government-provided healthcare insurance coverage for elected (i.e. President, Senators, Representatives) and nominated (i.e. Supreme Court Justices, Cabinet Secretaries, etc.) be revoked completely. Elected officials will henceforth be required to secure their own insurance on the open market.
It is also proposed that insurance coverage be revoked from former elected officials who may currently be covered under Government-provided plans.
In addition to the cost savings, this will have a secondary benefit of exposing elected officials to the conditions that face common citizens in the open market of healthcare coverage, allowing them to make better-informed policy decisions
