Withhold Federal Funding For Primaries In States That Do Not Hold Open Elections With Same Day Registration.

Created by J.B. on April 16, 2016

While the current primary system for both the Democratic and Republican parties are not in violation of the letter of the law, they represent a violation of the spirit of our democracy. All American citizen should have an equal right to vote and participate in the democratic process. Caucuses, closed primaries, and restrictive registration deadlines represent a violation of this right. State parties claim to be private organizations, and thus claim the right to structure primaries as a they see fit. However, these elections are federally funded. We believe that in order to receive this federal funding they must meet the requirement of holding open primaries with same day registration. It is time for the federal government to stop funding the suppression of democracy.
