Voting in elections is the principle duty, privilege, and responsibility of a citizen. In our republic, that is the best way to record the will of the people.
While once serving a useful purpose in the past, Tuesday elections do not presently serve the national interest. This day is often a work day for most citizens. Long lines seen across the country in the 2012 general election resulted in lost productivity and neglected voting from a large section of the population. In some areas of the country, laws are in place to allow citizens to leave work to vote, but this is insufficient for many who need the money that would be lost by the exercise of their citizenship.
A long weekend of voting will provide the fullest opportunity for all citizens to record their vote and voice.
