Automobiles kill far more Americans each year than firearms, in spite of being among the most highly govt regulated consumer products in the nation. Their speed and lethality has increased dramatically since the Henry Ford era.
Assault weapons and high capacity ammunition clips are firearm technology that should be strictly regulated; their use limited to law enforcement and the military. Sale to or use by the general public should be prohibited with violations subject to significant fines and imprisonment.
Ammunition that may be used in assault rifles was created years ago for use in deer and target rifles with modest ammunition capacities. Banning the sale of ammunition that can also be used in assault rifles would be stupid regulatory overkill.
