Work with Congress to pass legislation banning the sale of assault weapons and instituting stricter background checks.

After the recent slew of mass shootings, action needs to be taken and it needs to be taken quickly. Congress needs to ban assault weapons because there is no legitimate reason that any person would need such a weapon to defend his or herself. Also, we need to ensure that those who are purchasing firearms are capable of owning one, as many of the recent mass shootings have been attributed to mental illness.
