Work with Congress to raise the federal minimum wage to $10 per hour for all workers.

Let's strengthen the middle class by raising the minimum wage and lifting millions of working families out of poverty.
In 1970, the federal minimum wage was $10/hour, adjusted for inflation (Wolfram Alpha). Today, it's significantly lower, standing at $7.25/hour. The minimum cash wage is a meager $2.13/hour (Dept. of Labor). Many people who are tipped at their jobs get that money deducted from their paychecks, resulting in consumers, not employers, paying to support workers' livelihoods.
The federal government should shape policy so that workers take home enough money to provide both the basic necessities and the necessary investments—in a college education, a home, a car, a computer—to succeed in an evolving economy.
