OK, so modern cars have a weight sensor in the passenger seat to turn off the airbag if the passenger is not heavy enough, and sensors in key slot that "ding" when you forget your keys. I very much a conservative and against government interference, but this is one I could get behind. Why not require auto manufacturers to install a standard "plug" in the back seat of all cars, and baby seat manufacturers to include weight sensors, so if you turn off the engine with the child in the seat, you get at least as much warning as you do for your keys. will it cost? yes, but with the number of children that die each year, this one is worth it.
