I have talked with a few homeless sleeping in street. Here are some of their responses.
1. Family unable to put me up because if housing finds out I am there after being in jail, they will get evicted and lose their subsidy.
2. I have the extra room but if housing finds out I put up a homeless relative, then I will be in a shelter too
3. I had to go to divorce my husband and go to a shelter to be able to get into affordable housing
4. My pet was not allowed in any affordable housing, and I rather be in the street with my pet if he can't go with me.
This raises questions why pets are allowed in some neighborhoods and not in others? Stop penalizing family members for taking/assisting homeless, etc. until they get back on their feet..
