The current import and emission laws currently create a lot of issues for anyone wishing to buy a Euro or other spec vehicle from abroad. Both the European and the US emission regulations result in dramatically reduced vehicle emissions, yet because there is no one standard, vehicle makers in every country must make multiple versions of the same model in order to satisfy the various requirements.
Sadly, this results in the 25 year old import law for the US, which is a detriment to lowered emissions and vehicle safety. These older imported vehicles do not have to meet any emission legislation and sometimes can be in unsafe conditions.
By having one set of emissions regulations, newer vehicles could be imported since they would meet the global standards.
