Tunisian secular Leftist opposition leader Chokri Belaid was shot and killed by unknown assassins 2-6-2013. He had received death threats for his outspoken criticism of the ruling "moderate Islamist" party Ennadha and it's leniency in dealing with dangerous Salafist groups in Tunisia. Belaid's brother has accused Ennadha of being behind the murder. Ennadha has denied this and says the killers will be brought to justice. Whether he was killed by "moderate" Islamists from government or "radical" Islamists from the streets, his assassination was meant as a threat against Tunisians who stand up for the rights of liberals, leftists, secularists, feminists, workers, unionists, democrats, human rights advocates, and free speech advocates. Regional stability and security are at risk.
