work to limit predatory lending practices & reduce housing costs by preventing banks from charging interest in advance.

Created by P.U. on July 18, 2012

Lenders get to charge you interest up-front when lending for home loans, driving up the cost of housing out of reach of potential homeowners, who must "sell high" in order to recoup their expenses. A home loan of $100,000 can cost in excess of $300,000 over 30 years because banks are allowed to calculate & include all of the interest up front.

These predatory lending practices should be curtailed. There's no reason, even over a 30 year note, that a bank should be making 200+% profit on a home loan at the homeowner's expense. Pay principal first, calculate interest on the loan afterward, then pay the interest on the back end and force banks to stop making the consumer pay PMI (the bank's insurance against you defaulting on your home loan).
