The Arctic needs protection, much the same as the Antarctic has been protected, from being ravaged by oil drilling, industrial fishing, and other harmful human endeavors.
Military conflicts are sure to arise from nations trying to reap the abundance of natural resources from the area.
A global sanctuary would be a way to protect the area for natural resources for future generations, to reduce or eliminate the risk for wars over arctic resources, and would leave the area for scientific research only.
Our generation faces a decision: use up most of Earth's resources in our lifetimes just because technology allows us to do so, or because it was convenient, or because we didn't bother to act, OR, will we leave something for generations yet to come?
