The current TSA screening process is different in every airport, seems to be open to multiple interpretations, has not been shown to improve relative safety while traveling, is both time consuming and invasive, and lacks a common sense approach to what is dangerous. The current millimeter and backscatter scanners are costly and based on the TSA blog have prevented no items from clearing security that are both a danger to other passengers AND would not have been detected by a standard metal detector (i.e. brass knuckles). Likewise, the removal of shoes is time consuming, potentially unsanitary and completely unnecessary.
The TSA protocols needs to be rewritten, not by beaurocrats and TSA managers, but people with a modicum of reason that are familiar with legitimate safety concerns.
