On my wedding day, people who took care of my wedding Kimono were the couple of an American man and a Japanese woman. My bride's maid (American) expressed her appreciation, "Thank you for everything to make our country peace (not exact words)." I was shocked. We have been prohibited to express our appreciation to Japanese servicemen, and taught that going to Yasukuni Shrine is an evil's deed. Although Japan lost WWII, Japan did not agree to be disgraced for decades after the war. Going to Yasukuni does not mean that Japan would go back to the militarism at all. Our new history as a democratic country started since the San Francisco Treaty. I would like the US to more appreciate Japanese contribution to the world peace for 70 year instead of agreeing to Chinese/Korean propaganda.
