As you did with Plan B, we request the FDA reclassify birth control pills to be sold over the counter.

Created by B.S. on July 04, 2014

As it did with Plan B, the FDA should reclassify birth control pills to be sold over the counter (OTC).

A recent SCOTUS decision allows corporations to deny their female employees access to types of birth control based on their medically-inaccurate beliefs of how contraception works. Access to effective and affordable birth control should no longer be subject to the whims and misbeliefs of employers.

Untethering birth control from health insurance is the safe solution that meets the needs of women and removes the issue for those who oppose the contraception mandate.

Many countries already sell contraception OTC, so there is plenty of data to support its safety and effectiveness. Data also proves that expanded access to birth control lowers the rate of unwanted pregnancies and abortions.
