As two countries that have suffered terrorist attacks, the United States and India share a strong commitment to combating global terrorism. In June 2016, President Obama and Prime Minister Modi publicly recognized the threat posed by terrorism and emphasized our joint commitment to counter threats from al Qaeda, ISIL, Jaish-e Mohammad, Lashkar-e-Tayyiba, D Company, and other terrorist groups. They further condemned recent terrorist attacks from Paris to Pathankot and from Brussels to Kabul.
Over the past several years, the United States and India have enhanced our cooperation to fight global terrorism as a cornerstone of our bilateral Strategic Partnership. Our steadfast commitments and priorities are encapsulated in the 2015 U.S.-India Joint Declaration on Combating Terrorism, which affirmed the need to fight terrorism in all of its many forms. The United States and India have also both frequently expressed a deep concern over the continued threat posed by transnational terrorism and the cross-border movement of terrorists. As the President has made clear, no state should allow its territory to be used by terrorists to launch attacks into another state. In each of these areas, we will continue to work towards a common goal of preserving peace and security.
